The Best Bars In Cape Town, South Africa

Mack Prioleau

Cape Town, South Africa is an amazing place to explore the outdoors. But every once and awhile it is nice to take some time to relax and reflect on your adventures, and there is no better place to do this then the local bars with your friends. Cape Town has a number of great spots to enjoy a drink and share stories. Here are 4 of my favorite bars, which I believe every visitor should check out.

1) Beer House

Beer House has become a go to spot for early in the night. It is a great place to grab a few beers before going out on Long Street. As the name indicates, they have a huge selection of beers, local and foreign. The Beer House strives to be the hub for all things beer, incorporating the ideas of craft while also supporting local micro-breweries.

2) Village Idiot

Similar to Beer House, Village Idiot is a great place to start your night. This bar is a little nicer, making it a very popular local spot. The vision for the bar was to provide a good old neighbourhood hangout and meeting spot that offers great food and drinks in a relaxed environment. This place can get very busy, so on a Saturday night, it is typical for their to be a line out the door by 9 p.m.

3) The Dubliner

The Dubliner, Cape Towns first authentic Irish Pub, is a great bar for college students, located in the heart of the action on Long Street. Downstairs always has a live band usually playing American hits. Upstairs is a whole different world as there is usually very loud electronic music playing. The Dubliner has a wide selection of local and international beers and spirits. They also have a variety of Irish and South African treats to enjoy from the kitchen as well.

4) Thirty One

Thirty One is Cape Town’s nicest night club. The stylish and sophisticated club is situated on the 31st floor of the Absa Building and has night views over the whole city and ocean. Thirty One is both stylish and comfortable, offering an oval bar and cocktail lounge. The music ranges from the latest commercial beats to some soulful house.
